The sponge is the best choice for gently cleaning sensitive areas such as the face and sheath of a horse. Its soft texture allows for careful handling in delicate areas, minimizing the risk of injury or discomfort. The absorbent nature of a sponge is also beneficial for effectively cleaning moisture or dirt without causing irritation.

In contrast, other grooming tools don't serve this gentle cleaning purpose as effectively. A curry comb is designed for removing dirt and loose hair from a horse's coat, but its stiff bristles can be too harsh for sensitive regions. A body brush is typically used for finishing and smoothing a horse's coat, and while it's soft, it is still not as suited to the delicate task of cleaning sensitive areas. Meanwhile, a hoof pick is specifically meant for cleaning out the hooves and is not designed for any grooming functions above the ground. Therefore, the sponge’s properties make it the most appropriate choice for this specific grooming task.
